Spread betting: Learn of spread betting

My good partners Sports Alive suggested great theme for some posts- spread betting.
Lot of You (as me) don’t understand these things, so after some posts, I hope we will be spread betting experts. So lets start!
All these posts will be sponsored by Sports Alive who are the only one offering spread betting in Australia.

Spread betting: What is Spread Betting?!?

Spread betting is a “non fixed” bet type where your dividend
is dependant on the final result of the match (i.e. not a
specific outcome Win/Lose)
• sports alive provides a “quote” or the “spread” which is the
fixed odds equivalent of “the odds”.
• The “spread” is set where sports alive assesses the market
and always has a “buy” (high) and a “sell” (low) value.
• You bet on whether you believe the “spread” is too high or
too low.
• The more right you are, the more you win!

1.1 BUYING (GO HIGH)

Buy (go high) if you think the Spread is too low.
You win for every point over
You lose for every point under
2.1 SELLING (GO LOW)
SELL (go LOW) if you think the Spread is too low.
You win for every point UNDER
You lose for every point OVER

Spread betting: Types of Spread Bets

Totals
▫ sports alive provides a quote against a number of outcomes (e.g.
Total Points) and you bet based on whether you think the spread is
too high or too low.
• Supremacy
▫ Pits two teams or competitors against each other with a handicap
(similar to line betting) and you bet based on how much you believe
one team/competitor will win the contest by.
• Performance Index
▫ An artificial points scale is set by sports alive. You bet on how you
believe a selection(s) will fare against the quote for each selection.

Spread betting: Spread Betting Terminology

The Spread = the quote of the spread market
• Buy Price = the high end of the spread. If you Buy a spread
your winnings (or losses) are calculated against this value
• Sell Price = the low end of the spread
• Make up = the result of your individual bet in comparison to
your Buy or Sell price
• Spread dividend = the “make up” multiplied by the stake of
the bet
Mid point = the middle of the spread
• Stop Loss/Win = the maximum legislated “make up”
permitted for each spread market offered
• Lock Amount = spread equivalent of a ‘stake’ for a bet. The
lock amount is 20% of the maximum win or loss of the bet.
• Trading = as the market moves – trading in and out of
positions
• Close out = trading out your bet for a win or a loss by
placing an equal bet on the reverse option to the original
trade (i.e. Buy or Sell)
